“Diligently practice prayer and lectio divina.
When you pray, you speak with God, when you read, God speaks to you.”
~St. Cyprian
“When we pray, we speak to God;
when we read Scripture, God speaks to us.”
~St. Augustine
What is “Lectio Divina”? Lectio divina is simply Latin for “divine reading”. Lectio divina is the ancient method of reading and praying Sacred Scripture. This was the practice for centuries in order to listen to God through His Word. God-willing, the Sisters of the Word Apostolate will help sow and spread lectio divina to the forefront of prayer again.
Lectio divina develops a personal, intimate relationship with God. It allows us to touch Jesus through His Word. There are four main rungs of this prayer ladder to climb in “ascending” to God. The traditional fourfold method is:
Lectio (Reading),
Meditatio (Meditating),
Oratio (Prayer) and
Contemplatio (Contemplation).
After being in His Presence, we are changed and called to bear fruit. This additional step is sometimes called either Operatio or Actio or Resolutio (Action).
SOW, Let’s Lectio!
