On February 2nd, 2016, our foundress, Kimberly, was attending the 12:05pm weekday Mass at St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in Bloomingdale, Illinois. It was the Feast of the Presentation of the LORD. God was “thundering” outside, as an unusual, early February thunderstorm rolled through the area. However, He was also whispering within her heart. Over and over throughout the Mass, she heard the words, “Sisters of the Word…Sisters of the Word…Sisters of the Word.” The rhythm of these words ceased with the conclusion of Mass. She felt full of His Peace, yet overwhelmed at the same time. Kimberly had just entered the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil of 2014. She had been praying for guidance as to her next step in her spiritual journey. What does this calling phrase mean, “Sisters of the Word”? She was further enlightened with these obscure thoughts hours later: It is “an extension of Vatican II, a blessed fruit” and it is “to spread [the] ‘Joy of the Gospel’, as laborers in the field”. This vocation of an apostolate was revealed slowly over the next couple years, step by step, with tender patience from Our Heavenly Father. Questions were answered and details uncovered. It was much like breadcrumbs on a trail, slowly left behind to be discovered thankfully as the treasures they were.
